Turn an industrial area into a skateboard/rollerblading park and garden
There is a community in Brazil which converted brown lands into a gorgeous park where sheep are allowed to feed on the grass, which removes the need for gas powered mowers. Along those lines, there is an abandoned industrial section in Orillia, ON which should be repurposed. It would be amazing if sod was laid, concrete was poured (to create a skateboard and rollerblade rink) a few benches were placed, and a few trees and a simple garden was planted. The area has been unused for years, and it has long ceased to be of any financial value...so it should be healed and transformed into a place of beauty and function. Contractors would need to pour the concrete, but community members could lay sod, place the benches and create the garden. There is a lot of sun in this area so it would be great to have another community vegetable garden as well. The community can do the bulk of the work to save money. If we can cut through the red tape which has surrounded this brown field for years, it would be great.
