centralized heating cooling plants for subdivisions
When new subdivisions are built, incorporate the infrastructure for a centralized heating plant that would serve all the houses. Each house would use infloor heating as it requires lower temperature water to heat.
A big geothermal heat pump/solar system would be a very efficient way to heat homes. It could get to the point of using heat reclaim from waste water, for example; dishwashers, showers, clothes washers to name a few. I believe this would have a huge impact on reducing our carbon footprint. Big insulated water storage tanks in the ground could also store some heat from hot nova scotia summers, to preheat domestic water in the homes.
Or even if they built a geothermal system large enough to serve the houses, and each home could have it's own heat pump system.
