Bike Bank
I would like to help start a non-profit organization much like a food bank, but instead of providing donated food to needy people, would provide donated bikes to needy people. The Bike Bank would also supply bike safety lessons to the public. Public transit and taxi cabs can unaffordable if they need to be relied upon daily. Many children in families of poverty do not get their own bike. There are many old bikes sitting in garages and basements and I think the owners would be glad to donate them to a good cause. The Bike Bank could eventually sustain itself through bike safety events, bike tour fundraisers, and partnerships but initially would need funding for a repair-distribution site, parts, and tools. Why not help those in poverty and make the city greener too?
