Rooftop vegetable garden
I work as a Residence Coordinator with 250 university and college students at Memorial University. We recently opened a brand new residence hall complex. The building was designed and constructed in a sustainable manner and we currently applying for LEED certification. The programming and activities that happen in this building are also of a sustainable or green nature and we have a living learning community in outdoor pursuits and recreation. My proposal is to create a roof top garden on the top of one or both of these buildings so that students are able to learn about food security and local foods. I would be able to approach both our campus food service provider, residence life, and our Sustainability department, for help in planning, design, and support.
