2012 smart city project contest.
Wilderness Fitness Camp
Invite 20 people per day to participate in a fitness day out in the wilderness close to the city where instructors would walk the group through yoga and aerobic classes. Break for a healthy lunch with discussions from a nutritionist. Participate in weight lifting, cycling and swimming if available. Walk through the woods looking for edibles like wild endive, cattail and plantain for a salad and prepare supper with discussions of ideas learned around a campfire in the evening. The idea is to help people reconnect to their minds to their bodies through exercise and reconnect our bodies to nature by being outside and using our natural environment. One example - yoga indoors is very sterile. Music plays and you have a clean mat on a flat floor under fluorescent lights. Go to a field where the ground is soft or bumpy with the smell of grass and flowers with the music of birds and wind with the light of the sun changes the yoga experience if the instructor has the yoga practitioners use all their senses to experience the moment. It is very powerful and you should try it. This is just one hour of the day ... imagine a whole day focusing on self and nature while learning from experts along the way. A great way to spend a day or two.
