Alleyway Living
The mysteriousness of the alleyway is something that many people feel but never truly address. Most alleys lack any identity and are often accepted just as they are, as another by-product of the cities urbanization. These secondary streets, predicated on pedestrian scale, offer many great routes for pedestrians and cyclists, and have the potential to be transformed into a system that enhances the cities experience. These forgotten urban landscapes and be reused as public domain, and reinstated into the mental map of the city. By providing a network of mixed-use programs that invite people into the veins of the city, the stigma of the Toronto alleyway can be changed from underused and unsafe places to an alternate system that brings Torontonians together. Alleyways need to leave their mysterious allure behind and become embraced natural pathways that are accessible, that invite people to play, socialize, live, and travel, celebrating the pedestrian experience.
