Conquering the maze of decisions AV-TOR
"Conquering the maze of decisions" is an interactive art display that challenges every person in society to experience the true costs of their daily decisions. Everybody goes through life playing multiple roles. We aim to visualize the environmental impacts of these decisions. The art installation is based on the idea of "Choose your own adventure", where the public can choose a role they play in daily life (for example, as a parent, worker, consumer, etc) and try to make their way through the maze. At each crossroad in the maze they are faced with important decisions that come with each role. For example, as parents, they need to decide between the different types of transportation for their families, whether it is public transit, smart cars or SUVs. Depending on what decisions they make, at the end of the path they experience a realistic visualization of the impacts of their decisions. If the parent decide to use pesticides on their lawn, for example, they might be presented with bodies of birds poisoned by it, or a sample of polluted water from the production of pesticides. By stimulating all their senses, the exhibit will truly immerse them in the consequences of their decisions. However, people are allowed to replay in order to explore alternative outcomes that would hopefully lead to them making better decisions in their own lives. But we also remind them that "in real life, there is no replay."
